Adding Characters

Introduction

This guide will help you through the process of claiming your character(s) and verifying ownership of them. This process verifies that you are the owner of the character you have claimed to your account.

Benefits

Completing the character verification process will give you several benefits. One benefit that most users will want is access to their guild's rank restricted areas. You will also need to complete the verification process to be able to create a guild site for your guild.

If you have a character on an account that you do not have access to then you will need to do the verification process to have that character moved from the first account to your new one.

Did you know?

That if you have a character name and/or realm change you will need to re-add your character, with the new name and/or realm, to your account and re-verify it.

Getting Started

Once you have created a Curse/WowStead Account you will need to add your character(s) toadd character the account in order to post, create a guild site, or apply to a guild. Go to any guild site, and make sure you are logged in with your WowStead account. At the top right you should see a larger blue down arrow with either your account name or your character if you had added on prior. If you click on the arrow you will get a menu with the option to Add New Character.

You can have more than one character on your account, and you can belong to more than one WowStead guild site at a time.

If you are on the main WowStead.com site you will need to look at the top right where you should see Welcome, CurseUserName! with a little arrow point down next to it. If you click on the arrow you will get a menu with the option to Add New Character.

Verification Process

item to removeverification linkAfter the character is added to the account you will need to verify ownership. Once you are redirected to your character's profile look at the upper right area of the character's profile you will want to find the link Verify Ownership.

Where you click the link you will be redirected once again to a page that has a button to start the verification process. This will take you to a page that will highlight one or more items on your profile that you are going to need to remove from your character in-game.

Now log into World of Warcraft (the account with the character on it) and enter Azeroth with the character you are trying to verify. Open up your Armor (C by default) and remove the item or items that were highlighted for you to remove. Change those items highlighted and only those items. If you change, remove, add any other items the process WILL FAIL!

remove itemOnce you have removed the item or items you can log out (enter /camp enter). You do not need to log complete out of the game just the character. Once you have logged out of the character it will take a few second to a couple of minutes for your armory profile to update. It has taken me around 10-20 seconds after logging out for the Armory to update for me at this time. You may need to refresh a few times for it to display the changes.

Check the Armory and WowStead to make sure your character's gear updates prior to hitting complete.  You may want to wait a few minutes after logging out of the game before clicking complete.

Once it is displaying the removal of the item or items you will need to go back to the Character Verification page and click on Complete at the bottom. If done correctly you will have a Verification was Successful Notice. If not you will receive a Verification Failed Notice.

Verify or Guild Verify?

WowStead currently has two ways of having your character verified. There is Guild Verification and Verification.

Guild Verification can be done by one of your site admins through the Roster section of the Control Panel. Guild Verification is a verification for that guild. I will give you the access to your rank specific permissions just like being verified. However, if you are removed from the guild roster your will no longer be Guild Verified. This verification can also be revoked by a site admin as well. If your guild undergoes a site relocation you will need to be re-Guild Verified.

Verification is done by the owner of the character in the process posted above. It cannot be revoked or removed from your character unless you remove the character from your account. This is also used to have your character moved from an account you may not have access to.

Did you know?

If you are having issues verifying on your own, you can request one of your site admins to Guild Verify your character instead through the Roster section of the Control Panel.
